Hello NKA,
I would like to ask what the costing would be for the resources for the thatch roof construction or direct me to sources that do this within Ghana. As well as labour costs. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be cost effective within the competition budget.
Any other useful information would also be useful

Nowadays, roofing by grass thatching is not a common practice for building homes in the townships. It is essentially for roofing tourist sites and homes of the poorest of the poor in the villages. Quality thatch such as river reeds is hard to find in Ghana. Costs of harvesting and hauling it to the site, and thatch it professionally would be above the conventional zinc roofing.  A tourist site
Many people have concerns that homes roofed with corrugated zinc sheets are noisy during a heavy rain fall. It is also known to generate heat during the hot season. This is also the fact: The people like novelty that is proven to work. I reason that the use of earth reel ceiling may therefore be in order to create a well insulated ceiling. What is earth reel?
Earth reel can be used for ceiling or roof construction. It is suitable for sloping and flat ceiling construction. Its density and heat retaining capacity make it well suited for hot dry regions. The main component is a reel, made by rolling long grass such as is used for roof thatching and a wet clayey soil around a wooden spindle. The reels are laid between the timber purlins when still moist and pressed against each other, the space between them being filled with a fibre-soil mix. After drying, the cracks are filled with a mud slurry.

Thatch roof generally low cost roofs. However the reliability of these type roofs are low as comparison to other. One can enhance the reliability of such roof high and architectural meta roo architectural meta roofingfing design of the roof. |
